Holly Greer, Hewlett Packard Global Wellness' Program Manager, provides an understanding of how their company approaches holistic health and wellbeing through the employer perspective. Hewlett Packard Enterprise is a global company, located in 58 different countries where their team prioritizes a culture of health and wellness for their employees. To them, wellness means bringing forth a culture of wellbeing and equality, ensuring that each and every one of their employees is heard.

Moving beyond email for internal communication.

Since HPE is located in 58 different countries with several different time zones, emailing their employees tends to be an inefficient communication method. To make sure eyes are seeing more, HPE started using Slack, which grants their employees the flexibility to work, when, where, and however it's best for them. Switching to this communication platform increases engagement and achieves HPE's goal of making sure their employees feel recognized and more included.

Wellness privilege. Yes, it is real.

Wellness privilege is another element that is paramount to ensure an inclusive work environment. When you aren't thinking about wellness privilege, Holly Greer adds, "you're assuming that everyone in your team lives in a safe area or is working in the same area where the living conditions are exceptional." If your team members aren't healthier because of where they work or because of the service you are providing, then wellness privileges are definitely within that organization. It is a crucial element to consider for your employees because it can make a significant difference in demonstrating equity among all of your team members.

Because HPE is a global company, they recognize that everyone has a different perspective. Their team makes sure to meet employees halfway with any of their needs. Holly adds, "we're having to revisit and pivot some of our messaging because of everything that's going on in Ukraine. If you don’t, it comes across very tone deaf as it should because everyone's feeling things, even here domestically things are being felt all around this issue."

Being publicly private.

HPE does system wide assessments that weave in wellness questions in order to make their programs progressive instead of standalone. It is important to be careful about what you share on platforms that represent your corporate brand such as social media, especially in regards to prominent issues such as mental health. Holly adds that they don't share any of that data; however, "when it comes to some of our other utilized things like with our mental health app, we share how many users we have, we don't share who's using what, how long, we try to keep it very brief."
